| One of the primary projects
for the TAAP Archive is the creation of a guide that will
be published by Documentary Arts and made available for distribution
at no charge. The guide will be eventually accessible through
on-line systems and in hard copy upon request. In addition,
this guide will be submitted to the National Inventory of
Documentary Sources in the United States and the Archives
and Library Information Center at the National Archives.
Electronically
cataloging will effectively increase the availability of the
TAAP Archive both locally and nationwide. The physical arrangement
of the photographs within the collection and the creation
at the series level of a detailed inventory of the collection,
a summary description, and subject indexing will provide access
to hitherto inaccessible materials. All original and contact
prints, except for materials in extremely poor condition,
will be made available for reference purposes. The subsequent
use of data in the OCLC, NUCMC, and RLIN databases, in Chadwyck-Healeyís
National Inventory of Documentary Sources in the United States,
and in the Documentary Arts planned publication, "Guide
to the Texas African American Photography Collection"
will expand availability of these research materials nationwide.
The Special Collections Division of the University of Texas
at Arlington will provide Documentary Arts with access to
the OCLC system for the purpose of inputting bibliographic
data.
The collections will be cataloged in the
MARC (Machine-Readable Cataloging) format and added to the
bibliographic utility OCLC.
